Who is Paul Marangoni?
The Musician
I began drumming at the age of 13. I'm primarily self-taught, except for some
brief forays into private instruction from some very talented individuals:
My own studies consisted of working out of the standard books, such as
"Syncopation", and "Stick Control", as well as more recent classics like
Gary Chaffee's series of books.
I found the study of polyrhythms and meter very interesting and Gary's books are the cream of the crop in that area.
The Computer Programmer
After years of toiling in a series of seemingly less interesting bands, I became
frustrated and fed up with the life of a musician in Toronto. I didn't just
want to play drums. I wanted to play great music. The problem was that my idea
of great was different from everyone else's. It was time to try something new.
If I was going to try to earn a living doing something other than music, it had to
be something I enjoyed, and it had to be lucrative. Computers seemed to fit the
bill. Several friends of mine were in the field and they offered advice
whenever I needed it. I decided to go to college - full-time.
If I was successful in school, I reasoned, I would be successful in
the real world.
Well, I did extremely well in college and I've done equally well professionally.
My specialty is Internet development with Microsoft platforms and tools. If you
have a need in this area, be sure to contact me.
The Future
Playing music is how I truly express myself. I hope to devote more of my time to
playing and writing music.
